The American Cultural Studies program builds upon the Department of Linguistics’ growing experience with different academic initiatives related to language and culture here at the Universidad de Chile. We seek to develop an intercultural and global platform where students and professionals from different walks of life can produce and share the knowledge necessary for a rapidly changing world.
As coordinators of American Cultural Studies, what motivates us is on the one hand, our desire to help students and professionals improve their oral and written English language skills, but in a context that goes beyond the traditional language-learning context typically available to them.
On the other hand, we are also motivated by our desire to create the right context for students and instructors alike to study, analyze, and explore the different facets of U.S. society, past and present, and to use the knowledge produced and shared as a way to improve our own local contexts, and our own lives.
